About Leland Vall

Working with Luis Baez, athletic/personal trainer at Chelsea Piers.

I discovered the Alexander Technique in 1982 in a big group demonstration. At the start of the class, the Alexander teacher went around the room gently repositioning each person’s head. I could see that something changed each time he did this but when he came to me the experience was an epiphany. It was like being reintroduced to my body.

Like anyone, I thought I knew how to hold my head, walk, sit in a chair, and breathe. But what I didn’t know is that even a small improvement in how I “use” my body could make such a giant difference.  Of course, I have taken many Alexander lessons since then, but today, I still benefit from that first experience and I am sure that I look and feel better every moment of my life because of it.

I am passionate about the Alexander Technique and I am focused on getting my students where they want to be as quickly as possible.  I trained in Boston for three years with some of the best teachers in the world and I am certified by the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT). I am also a certified personal trainer and I have a special certification in breathing coordination.  For five years I was the editor of the AmSAT News and I am a former board member of the American Center for the Alexander Technique.
